Before the age of AI image generation, we rarely asked this question. Even ambiguous images usually required substantial human effort to discover, imagine, and create.
Today, when we encounter photorealistic images with seemingly recognizable details, we pause and doubt a lot now. Is this a sign of growing literacy in fact-checking, or a growing reluctance to trust the authenticity of media in general?
Would it be unfortunate if Content Credentials and AI watermarking became the only remaining tools we had to establish what is real?
I love outdoor activities, and I would always prefer seeing natural landscapes with my own eyes. Every form of media is an interpretation, with countless perspectives and ways of observing in between. As long as it sparks our imagination and strengthens our ability to make connections, it can remain meaningful and fun.
